Cyberbullying 101: 5 Tips for Dealing With Mean People Online
Many of you already know me from my posts about being a Gamer Girl, so you know I really like to empower girls to love who they are. As a loyal Minecraft YouTuber, I post, watch, and share other Minecraft creator's videos all the time.
Today I saw a video by a girl who makes some really awesome videos. However, her most recent video sorta made me angry (keep reading). This video was about her needing to take a break from YouTube because she was getting a lot of mean comments posted on her video.
That makes me angry! No one should make others feel that way. My parents taught me that if you don't have anything nice to say, then don't say anything at all. I guess some people haven't learned that lesson.
Sometimes I get mean comments on my video. I don't like it and sometimes it's hurtful, but most of the time I just ignore them. Here are some tricks I've learned to help me stay positive on the Internet.
1. INVITE THEM TO THE BLOCK PARTY
You don't have to let those people into your world. Just hit the block button, so they won't be able to send you any more messages. Let them go troll somewhere else.
2. THINK ABOUT WHY YOU'RE THERE
Why are you on the internet? Is it to do something positive? Is it to help people or spread joy? Just focus on that. Mean people are just sad people who don't know how to be happy. Keep spreading your joy. Maybe one day they'll decide to take a lesson from you and do the same.
3. GO TO YOUR HAPPY PLACE
My happy place is my puppy. I think about her and everything is right in the world! She's a fluffy ball of cuteness that makes it hard for me to stay upset about anything. Find your own happy place to get away from all the meanies.
4. TALK TO SOMEONE
My mom says life is a journey that's not meant to be done alone. We all need supportive people to help us get through things when we can't find our way. Sometimes just talking to a friend or family member can be enough to help you deal with the meanies. Sometimes they can give you tips (like the ones on this list) that can help you too.
5. TAKE A BREAK
Sometimes it's just too much and you need to take a break. Don't push yourself to deal with these mean people if you're not feeling up to it. It's not worth it. Do like the girl who inspired this post and just take a break from it all.
Thanks for reading! Hope these tips help you deal with the meanies on the internet.
